Mailbox Monday

This is it — my very first Mailbox Monday, and I’ve only got one book to show for it.

Enemies and Allies by Kevin J. Anderson.

I got this one through Bostick Communications; usually, the books they promote are small press/self-published, but this one is from William Morrow/HarperCollins. Anderson is no slouch in the writing department, either — he’s an acclaimed science fiction author, and one of my own favorites.

From the back cover:

A time for the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel.
The fifties.
A time of postwar conservatism and international tensions, of fear and hope, when Howdy Doody, UFOs, Elvis, and the Communist menace occupied America.
A time when heroes were needed more than ever.

The book is the story of the first meeting between Batman and Superman. Of course, there are at least five existing “first meetings” between the two; the actual first meeting took place in the 30’s. Anderson has reimagined the meeting at a key time in history, and it sounds like a fascinating story. I’m looking forward to reading this one.
